Regular Season Round 24: Spartak SP - Neftyanik 64-65

Eighth-ranked Spartak SP (11-11) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Neftyanik (17-6) in Sankt Petersburg on Thursday. The visitors from Omsk managed to secure only one-point victory 65-64. However their fans expected much easier game. Neftyanik forced 23 Spartak SP turnovers. Strangely Spartak SP outrebounded Neftyanik 42-24 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for forward Marina Sheveleva (183-89) who saved her team from a defeat with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Victoria Korsakova (170-99) contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Neftyanik's coach Elena Lazutkina used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Point guard Elena Melnikova (175-88) replied with 27 points and the former international power forward Natalia Vodopianova (188-81) added 11 points and 16 rebounds in the effort for Spartak SP. Neftyanik have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Spartak SP at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Chernye Medv.. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
