Regular Season Round 31: Khimki-2 - CSKA Junior 80-83

The most exciting game of round 31 in the VTB-Youth League took place in Khimki. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of their biggest opponent Khimki-2 (23-12) to third ranked CSKA Junior (21-12) 83-80 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Khimki-2. Khimki-2 was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 25-18 charge of CSKA Junior, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Forward Filipp Gafurov (207-1) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. Guard Oleg Akramov (202-3) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. Four CSKA Junior players scored in double figures. Forward Vladislav Odinokov (203-0) produced 17 points and 8 rebounds and guard Georgiy Vasilyev (186-1) added 20 points respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. CSKA Junior have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain third place with 21-12 record having nine points less than leader Lokomotiv-2. Khimki-2 at the other side keeps the second position with 12 games lost. CSKA Junior will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Khimki-2 will play again at home against CSKA Junior and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
