Regular Season Round 27: Irkut - CSKA 2 92-70
Date: March 2, 2021
Bottom-ranked Irkut managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of five consecutive losses on Tuesday night. This time newly promoted Irkut outleveled tenth-ranked CSKA 2 in Irkutsk 92-70. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 22-point difference proves that Irkut was well-prepared to that game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for forward Sergey Mikhalev (194-93) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Alexander Martynov (197-95) accounted for 20 points for the winning side. Center Aleksandr Shashkov (211-0) came up with 19 points and point guard Makar Konovalov (189-0) added 12 points and 7 assists respectively for CSKA 2 in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Irkut maintains fourteenth place with 2-21 record. Loser CSKA 2 keeps the tenth position with 14 games lost. Irkut will meet higher ranked Kupol-Rodniki (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CSKA 2 will have a break next round.
