Regular Season Round 2: AEL - Anagennises 60-69

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Limassol: Anagennises and AEL. AEL was defeated at home 60-69 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It looked good early as AEL took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Anagennises had a 23-15 second period charge getting the lead and AEL was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 60-69. American guard Cassidy Mihalko (180-95, college: CBU) notched a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals to lead the effort and Mezra Torlak (172-2) supported her with 14 points and 7 assists. Anagennises' coach Iraklis Pittakas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 13 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists by American-Nigerian center Aisha Balarabe (191-85, college: Virginia) did not help to save the game for AEL. The former international swingman Petra Orlovic (178-90) added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the hosts. Anagennises will play against Keravnos in Nicosia in the next round. AEL will play on the road against Anorthosis in Larnaca and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
