Regular Season Round 7: Apoel - Anorthosis 86-77

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Apoel (5-2) beat 6th ranked Anorthosis (3-4) in Nicosia 86-77 on Thursday. Anorthosis trailed by 18 points at halftime and as many as 22 after three quarters before a 24-11 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 77-86 at the end of the game. Apoel forced 24 Anorthosis turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Nigerian-American forward Emmanuel Omogbo (203-95, college: Colorado St., agency: Octagon Europe) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Greek forward Konstantinos Simitzis (200-98) accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. American guard Michael Mallory (185-94, college: S.Connecticut) came up with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Orlando Parker (203-91, college: Wagner) added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Anorthosis in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Apoel. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Keravnos. Newly promoted Anorthosis keeps the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with AEL and APOP. Apoel will meet APOP (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Anorthosis will play against Achilleas K. in Kaimakli and hope to secure a win.
