Regular Season Round 8: Omonia - Keravnos 63-84

The game in Nicosia supposed to be also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Keravnos (6-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Omonia (4-4). Keravnos smashed Omonia 84-63 on Wednesday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Omonia. The game was mostly controlled by Keravnos. Omonia managed to win second period 20-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Keravnos dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Omonia's 20. Keravnos forced 21 Omonia turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Collin Malcolm (200-97, college: WPU) who scored 29 points and 9 rebounds. International point guard Filippos Tigkas (184-2) chipped in 18 points and 8 assists. Malcolm is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. American forward Donovan Smith (207-93, college: Quinnipiac) produced 26 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and his fellow American import forward Nathan Krill (202-96, college: USF) added 12 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Keravnos moved-up to third place, which they share with Apoel. Loser Omonia keeps the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with AEL. Keravnos will meet at home AEL (#6) in the next round. Omonia will play against the league's second-placed AEK Larnaca and hope to secure a win.
