Regular Season Round 7: AEL - Anorthosis 79-64

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Anorthosis (6-1) in Limassol on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked AEL (5-2) 79-64. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Anorthosis. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by AEL. Anorthosis managed to win fourth quarter 23-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds. The former international swingman Petra Orlovic (178-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four AEL players scored in double figures. AEL's coach Pantelis Konstantinou used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Diana Delva (187-88, college: Hartford) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds and the former international forward Tijana Raca (183-97, college: Wyoming) added 18 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Anorthosis. AEL have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Anagennises. Defending champion Anorthosis still keeps top position with one game lost. AEL is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Zinonas (#6) in the next round. Anorthosis will play against Keravnos (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
