Regular Season Round 8: AEL - Zinonas 84-59

Bottom-ranked Zinonas (0-8) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their eighth consecutive match to third ranked AEL (6-2) 84-59 on Sunday evening. The game without a history. AEL led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. AEL outrebounded Zinonas 54-39 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. International guard Anthia Papadouri (168-93) chipped in 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Russian guard Tatyana Zelenoborskaya (176-96) produced 7 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and guard Michaela Thoma (175-3) added 12 points and 5 assists respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. AEL have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Anagennises. Newly promoted Zinonas still closes the standings with eight games lost. AEL will meet Keravnos (#5) in the next round. Zinonas will play against the league's second-placed Anagennises and hopes to get finally their first victory.
