Regular Season Round 9: Apollon - Etha 84-62
Date: December 4, 2021
There was no surprise in Limassol where 11th ranked Etha (2-7) was crushed by ninth ranked Apollon (4-5) 84-62 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-62. Apollon looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Etha's players. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Mike Holton Jr (186-90, college: St.Michael's) stepped up and scored 26 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and guard Sayeed Pridgett (196-98, college: Montana) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Apollon players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Wesley Harris (203-97, college: Tennessee St.) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Johnathan Hudson (180-87, college: Texas A&M) scored 21 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Apollon moved-up to sixth place, which they share with AEL and Anorthosis. Etha lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with seven games lost. Apollon will meet higher ranked Omonia (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Etha will play against the league's leader Apoel (#1) and hope to secure a win.
