Regular Season Round 9: Zinonas - Anagennises 48-75

Bottom-ranked Zinonas (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 75-48 loss to second ranked Anagennises (7-2) in . But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game was mostly controlled by Anagennises. Zinonas was better in fourth quarter 22-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Zinonas to just 5 points in second quarter and to 12 points in first half. Anagennises dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Zinonas' 32. Anagennises forced 24 Zinonas turnovers and outrebounded them 56-26 including a 25-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Zinonas' players. It was a good game for American guard Cassidy Mihalko (180-95, college: CBU) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 31 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 11 steals (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). Naturalized Bulgarian power forward Styliana Velinova (192-0) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 21 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Russian guard Tatyana Zelenoborskaya (176-96) answered with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Emmelia Georgiou (180-4) added 9 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Zinonas. Zinonas' coach Antreas Solomonides gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Anagennises have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-2 record behind leader Anorthosis, which they share with AEL. Newly promoted Zinonas still closes the standings with nine games lost. Anagennises will play against league's leader Anorthosis in Larnaca in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Zinonas will play at home against Keravnos (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
