Regular Season Round 12: Keravnos - Apollon 86-69

No shocking result in a game in Strovolos where third ranked Keravnos (9-2) defeated 7th ranked Apollon (5-7) 86-69. The game was mostly controlled by Keravnos. Apollon was better in fourth quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Keravnos dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Apollon's 30. They outrebounded Apollon 35-22 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Keravnos players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. It was a good game for guard Deondre Burns (190-97, college: ORU, agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 6 rebounds. American forward Collin Malcolm (200-97, college: WPU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Malcolm is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Keravnos' coach Dinos Kalabakos allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Mike Holton Jr (186-90, college: St.Michael's) replied with 22 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and international forward Rafail Eleftheriou (201-94, college: FPU) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Apollon. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Keravnos have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 9-2 record behind leader AEK Larnaca. Apollon at the other side keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. They share the position with AEL. Keravnos will play against league's second-placed Apoel in Nicosia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Apollon will play at home against the league's leader AEK Larnaca (#1) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
