There was no surprise when 11th ranked Samara-2 (5-25) was defeated at home by third ranked Runa-2 (21-9) 82-69 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 27-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Runa-2 looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Center Boris Mitkin (205-2, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and guard Vladimir Markovich (176-1) chipped in 7 points, 11 assists and 4 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Alexander Melnikov (186-2) with 14 points and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and power forward Dmitri Afonin (200-4) scored 12 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Runa-2 have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Khimki-2. Loser Samara-2 keeps the eleventh position with 25 games lost. Runa-2 will meet at home Unics-2 (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Samara-2 will have a break next round.
