Regular Season Round 14: AEL - Anagennises 58-65

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked AEL (11-3) in Limassol on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Anagennises (9-3) 65-58. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of AEL. AEL trailed by 14 points at halftime and as many as 19 after three quarters before a 24-12 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 58-65 at the end of the game. Anagennises outrebounded AEL 48-37 including 33 on the defensive glass. American guard Cassidy Mihalko (180-95, college: CBU) had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized Bulgarian power forward Styliana Velinova (192-0) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Anagennises' coach Iraklis Pittakas used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international swingman Petra Orlovic (178-90) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds and American forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Anagennises maintains third position with 9-3 record having 2 victories less than leader AEL. AEL at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. They share the position with Anorthosis. Anagennises are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Zinonas (#6) in the next round. AEL will play against ENAD (#4) in Nicosia and is hoping to win this game.
