Regular Season Round 18: Apoel - APOP 96-76

Not a big story in a game in Nicosia where 10th ranked APOP (6-12) was rolled over by third ranked Apoel (15-3) 96-76. It looked good early as APOP took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Apoel had a 30-13 second period charge getting the lead and APOP was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 76-96. Apoel players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. American swingman Sir'Dominic Pointer (198-92, college: St.John's) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and international center Michalis Koumis (204-96) supported him with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Apoel players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 35 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds by American forward Justin Martin (199-90, college: SMU) did not help to save the game for APOP. His fellow American import point guard Dee Davis (178-93, college: Xavier, agency: Inception Sports) added 24 points and 4 assists. Apoel have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with AEK Larnaca. APOP lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with 12 games lost. Apoel will play against E.N. Paralimni (#4) on the road in the next round. APOP will play against Anorthosis (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
