Regular Season Round 36: Runa-2 - Khimki-2 63-64

Fifth-ranked Runa-2 (22-12) made lots of trouble for second ranked Khimki-2 (27-9) in Moscow on Thursday. The visitors from Khimki managed to secure only one-point victory 64-63. However their fans expected easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-11. But Runa-2 won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khimki-2 forced 22 Runa-2 turnovers. Strangely Runa-2 outrebounded Khimki-2 40-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Armenian forward Alexey Chizhenok (200-2001) who scored 15 points. Center Ivan Potezhnyi (208-2002) chipped in 7 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Boris Mitkin (205-2002, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and guard Vladimir Markovich (176-2001) added 11 points and 5 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Khimki-2 have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Runa-2 lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifth place with 12 games lost. Khimki-2 will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Runa-2 will play again at home against the league's leader Khimki-2 (#1) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
