Regular Season Round 21: AEL - Apollon 82-81

The most exciting game of round 21 in the OPAP Basket League took place in Limassol. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Apollon (10-11) to eighth ranked AEL (9-12) 82-81 on Friday evening. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 82-81. Americans were the main players on the court. Center DeAngelo Riley (206-1988, college: Azusa Pacific) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds for the winners and guard Courtney Pigram (185-1985, college: ETSU, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 29 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Michael Finke (208-1996, college: GCU, agency: Players Group) with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and guard Mike Holton Jr (186-1990, college: St.Michael's) scored 12 points and 5 assists. AEL moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Anorthosis. Apollon at the other side keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. AEL is looking forward to face higher ranked Apoel (#3) in Nicosia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Apollon will play at home against ENAD and is hoping to win this game.
