There was no surprise in Nicosia where 7th ranked AEL (9-13) was defeated by third ranked Apoel (17-4) 102-94 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 33-21 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Apoel dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to AEL's 38. Apoel forced 22 AEL turnovers. American swingman SirDominic Pointer (198-1992, college: St.John's) scored 27 points and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Konstantinos Simitzis (200-1998) chipped in 26 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Apoel players scored in double figures. At the losing side American center DeAngelo Riley (206-1988, college: Azusa Pacific) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 steals and his fellow American import guard Courtney Pigram (185-1985, college: ETSU, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 assists. Apoel moved-up to second place, which they share with Keravnos. Loser AEL keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Anorthosis.
