Regular Season Round 1: AEL - Keravnos 101-39

Very significant was AEL's (1-0) victory against Keravnos 101-39. The game without a history. AEL led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Keravnos to just 7 points in first quarter. AEL held Keravnos to an opponent 23.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 55.6 percent accuracy of the winners. AEL forced 19 Keravnos turnovers and outrebounded them 53-24 including a 38-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Keravnos' players. American swingman Hailey Leidel (180-1997, college: UMass) fired 31 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Demetra Papalla (184-2003) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four AEL players scored in double figures. AEL's coach Giorgos Palalas felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naturalized German swingman Alyssa Pangalos (168-2003) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds and Anna Charalambous (170-2001) added 9 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. AEL will meet Youth Stars in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Keravnos will play against Anorthosis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
