Regular Season Round 8: Sparta&K MR - Nika 96-61

There was a minor upset in Vidnoye where 4th ranked Nika (6-2) was rolled over by sixth ranked Sparta&K MR (4-4) 96-61 on Sunday. Sparta&K MR dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Nika's 32. They outrebounded Nika 38-22 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Sparta&K MR especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was swingman Anna Kuznetsova (177-2001) who scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international Daria Ignatova (180-2000) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Sparta&K MR players scored in double figures. The former international Alexandra Marchenkova (185-1994, agency: LBM Management) produced 14 points and Serbian Nevena Jovanovic (182-1990) added 9 points respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sparta&K MR maintains sixth position with 4-4 record. Loser Nika keeps the fourth place with two games lost. Sparta&K MR will meet league's second-placed UMMC in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Nika will play against the league's leader Dynamo K. and hope to secure a win.
