The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixth ranked Apollon's (4-3) home victory over 7th ranked APOP (2-3) 80-53 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Apollon. APOP managed to win second period 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding APOP to just 5 points in first quarter. Apollon looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Deandre Abram (203-1997, college: Milwaukee) fired 18 points for the winners. Guard Triston Simpson (188, college: S.Dakota) chipped in 17 points. Four Apollon players scored in double figures. Forward Aamondae Coleman (200-1998, college: FPU) produced 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Jeremy McLaughlin (203-1995, college: Catawba) added 11 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Apollon moved-up to fifth place. Loser APOP keeps the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with Achilleas K.. Apollon will meet Anorthosis (#9) in the next round. APOP will play against the league's leader Apoel and hope to secure a win.
