Regular Season Round 9: AEL - Anagennises 73-51

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Limassol: AEL (#1) and Anagennises (#2). AEL (9-0) crushed visiting Anagennises (7-2) by 22 points 73-51. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Anagennises. It was a good game for American swingman Hailey Leidel (180-1997, college: UMass) who led her team to a victory with 24 points and 7 rebounds. The former international swingman Petra Orlovic (178-1990) contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American guard Cassidy Mihalko (180-1995, college: CBU) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and naturalized Bulgarian power forward Styliana Velinova (192-2000) added 13 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Anagennises. Anagennises' coach Iraklis Pittakas gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. AEL have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Defending champion Anagennises keeps the second position with two games lost. AEL are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Keravnos (#6) in Nicosia in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Anagennises will play at home against Anorthosis (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
