Date: January 15, 2023
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Nicosia: Apoel (#2) and Etha (#6). Apoel (10-1) won against visiting Etha (5-7) 107-95. The game was mostly controlled by Apoel. Etha managed to win fourth quarter 31-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Etha's 32. Apoel looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Etha's players. The best player for the winners was Croatian swingman Davor Konjevic (198-1990) who scored 28 points and 5 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). American guard Carlbe Ervin II (190-1995, college: Kansas St., agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 9 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists. Ervin II is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Malik Curry (185-1999, college: WVU, agency: Green Sports Management) produced 27 points and 4 assists (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and his fellow American import guard Mikey Dixon (188-1998, college: Idaho) added 26 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Etha's coach Christos Stylianidis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Apoel have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-1 record behind leader Keravnos. Etha at the other side keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Anorthosis. Apoel are looking forward to face E.N. Paralimni (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Etha will play against Achilleas K. (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
