Sixth-ranked Neuchatel (12-12) made lots of trouble for third ranked Vevey Riviera (17-7) on Friday. Vevey Riviera managed to secure only three-point victory 89-86. However their fans expected easier game. Vevey Riviera had a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. Point guard Malik Johnson (178-1997, college: Canisius) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners. Guard Mike Williams (188-1996, college: Rutgers) chipped in 16 points. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Vevey Riviera players scored in double figures. Forward Dalan Ancrum (198-1996, college: W.Illinois) produced 31 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and point guard Justin Roberts (182-1998, college: Georgia St.) added 20 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Neuchatel's coach Mitar Trivunovic tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Vevey Riviera maintains third place with 17-7 record having four points less than leader Massagno. Neuchatel lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with 12 games lost. Vevey Riviera are looking forward to face Boncourt (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Neuchatel will play against the league's leader Massagno and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
