Regular Season Round 9: Avtodor-2 - MBA-2 63-65

The most exciting game of round 9 in the VTB-Youth League took place in Saratov. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 8th ranked Avtodor-2 (3-6) to sixth ranked MBA-2 (5-2) 65-63 on Sunday evening. MBA-2 outrebounded Avtodor-2 59-29 including a 32-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when MBA-2 made 10 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Avtodor-2 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was swingman Egor Yushkov (192-2004) who scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Center Viktor Shiryaev (204-2005) chipped in 6 points and 15 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Sergey Skotnikov (187-2005) who recorded 13 points and swingman Matvey Popov (192-2004) added 8 points and 8 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. MBA-2 moved-up to fourth place. Avtodor-2 at the other side dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. MBA-2 will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Avtodor-2 will play again at home against MBA-2 (#4) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
