Play-off
finals: AEL won the championship !
AEL has dominated this year's Women's basketball! The Limassol team beat Keravnos 83-65 at Game 4 and reached three wins,
winning the league title. Although starting the finals with home court
disadvantage AEL managed to win the championship while they also won the
cup, 3 weeks ago, beating Keravnos in the final.
The win for AEL was absolutely fair since the home team took the lead
from early on and didn't allow Keravnos to go ahead. The girls of coach
Marios Thrasivoulidis led at halftime by 6, 42-36 but in the beginning
of the third period they made a 15-2 run and shot the difference up to
19 (57-38). From that point on Keravnos was unable to make the comeback
so the final 83-65 gave the opportunity for AEL to celebrate the 182nd
title of the club's history in all sports!
Eleana Pantazi was amazing. The young guard scored 22 points and played
great defense. Pantic with 20 and Papadopoulou with 18 also help guide
AEL to the title. For Keravnos Drozg was again alone with 21 points.

AEL
are the Cup winners
AEL are the 2005-06 women cup
winners! The Limassol team put an end to Keravnos' 7 year domination in
the competition after beating the Strovolos team 73-62 on Saturday
evening (1/4) at "Kition" stadium in Larnaka.
Keravnos took the early lead thanks to Phedonos, Slotala and Drozg while
for AEL only Audere was able to find the way to the basket. So at the
end of the first period Keravnos was leading by 12, 13-25.
In the second period AEL managed to come close and tie the score 34-34
(17'38'') thanks to amazing percentages from the three-point line. The Limassol team made 8/10 in the period but AEL lost the advantage under
the basket since Pantic was on the bench with 3 fouls. At the end of the
half, AEL was leading 42-35 after creating a 29-10 run in the second
quarter.
The third period belonged to Keravnos. The girls of Coach Panayiotis
Yiannaras played good defense and prevented the Latvians of AEL (Eibele
and Audere) to continue scoring from long range. So Keravnos regained
the lead 44-45 (25'09'') and closed the period ahead 51-53.
The final period started with problems for Keravnos since Drozg
(30'15'') and Stoneskou (31'35'') reached four fouls. On the other hand
AEL had Pantic dominating under the basket so the Limassol team took the
lead 64-59 (35'12''). Keravnos wasn't able to fight back so the final
score 73-62 gave the chance to AEL to celebrate the club's third trophy
in eight days (men's basketball championship, women's volleyball cup,
the other two).
Kallia Papadopoulou of AEL was voted MVP of the final after scoring 11
points. Eibele was the top scorer of the winners with 22 points (4/4
free throws, 3/4 two pointers and 4/8 three pointers). For Keravnos,
Maja Drozg had the highest tendex of the final with 0.680 after having
18 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists.
