Girona tabs Maya Caldwell

Maya Caldwell

Spar Girona (LF Endesa) signed 25-year-old American 180cm guard Maya Caldwell (college: Georgia) for the upcoming season. She most recently played for Atlanta Dream (WNBA). In 9 games she averaged 8.1ppg, 2.3rpg, 1.8apg, and 1.1spg last season. She played for Bogazici (TKBL) in the Turkish league during the last season.
Three years ago, she was selected by the Indiana Fever (WNBA) in the third round (33rd overall) of the draft.
She graduated from the University of Georgia in 2021, and it will be her fourth season in pro basketball.
Caldwell has also played professionally in Israel (Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan), Turkey, and Spain (Gran Canaria).
In 2023, her team reached the Israeli League Semifinals. She was part of the SEC All-Tournament Team in 2021.
Her game is described as a perfect balance between strategy and skill.
Maya Caldwell is arguably the most versatile wing in this year's draft class. Caldwell plays positions 2-4 as a starter in the SEC, one of the toughest conferences in the country. Her size and length combined with her ability to handle the basketball and score at all three levels present a problem for opposing defenses. Her offensive ability was on full display throughout the SEC tournament, as she was University of Georgia's leading scorer, averaging 15.1ppg while shooting 56% from the field, 75% from the three point line. Maya's standout performances at the tournament led to her being named to the SEC ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM.

Has two brothers (Omar and Cameron) and two sisters (LaToya and Nevaeh) between them.
After graduation, she wants to run a non-profit organization.
The recipient of the Joy Thomas Elder Women's Basketball Scholarship is chosen based on academic achievement and athletic performance. The scholarship is awarded to a female basketball player who demonstrates leadership on and off the court. The selection process takes place during the basketball season, and the scholarship is typically awarded between the months of January and March.
I graduated this past May with a degree in Communication Studies.
Currently pursuing a master's degree in Non-profit Management & Leadership.
