The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Gladiators (21-5) in Quakenbrueck on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by seventeenth ranked Artland Dragons (7-19) 97-90. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gladiators. Artland looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American point guard Buzz Anthony (180-1998, college: RMC) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Brandon Thomas (198-1984, college: UMass, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 21 points during the contest. Artland Dragons' coach Julien Patrick Flomo used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Iranian Behnam Yakhchali (196-1995, agency: BIG) responded with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Artland moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with Duesseldorf. Trier at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. Artland is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Paderborn (#18) at home in the next round. Trier will play against Bochum (#15) and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Uni Baskets managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the two-game losing streak. This time they won against thirteenth-ranked Vechta-2 in Paderborn 89-77. Lars Lagerpusch (207-1998) notched 23 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and Lucas Mayer supported him with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Paderborn maintains eighteenth position with 6-20 record. Newly promoted Vechta 2 dropped to the twelfth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Nuernberg. Paderborn will play against higher ranked Artland (#17) in Quakenbrueck in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vechta 2 will play at home against Giessen (#4) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
Fifteenth-ranked SparkassenStars (8-18) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Kirchheim Knights (17-9) in Bochum on Saturday. The visitors from Kirchheim managed to secure only one-point victory 84-83. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Michael Flowers who scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Raynere Thornton produced 23 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the hosts. Kirchheim Knights have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Hagen. Loser SparkassenStars keeps the fifteenth position with 18 games lost. Kirchheim will meet at home Nuernberg (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bochum will play against the league's leader Trier and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 26: Giessen won against Nuernberg on the opponent's court 81-66. Koblenz unfortunately lost to Jena in a home game 64-82. Muenster managed to beat Bremerhaven on the road 91-83. Bayreuth was defeated by Frankfurt on its own court 62-80. Dresden beat Hagen in a road game 101-88. Karlsruhe PS won against Duesseldorf at home 83-70.

Nuernberg - Giessen 66-81

Very expected game in Nuernberg where 12th ranked Falcons (10-16) were defeated by sixth ranked 46ers (18-9) 81-66 on Saturday. Giessen made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Nuernberg turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Duane Wilson (190-1994, college: Texas A&M) who scored 17 points. Serbian forward Stefan Fundic (200-1994) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Wilson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American power forward Courtney Alexander (203-1997, college: Tenn Tech) produced 13 points and point guard Tim Koepple (184-2000) added 9 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. 46ers have a solid three-game winning streak. Giessen moved-up to fourth place. Nuernberg lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Vechta 2. Giessen will meet Vechta 2 (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nuernberg will play against Kirchheim and hope to secure a win.
