Greens defend championship title in chaotic Game Four - Jun 7, 2010

Olympiakos - Panathinaikos 69-76 (1-3)
Panathinaikos defended the championship title in Greece. The Greens celebrated in Game Four 69-76 wining the series with almost perfect 3-1. Mike Batiste (203-F-77, college: Arizona St.) stepped up for the new-old champions with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Vassilis Spanoulis (193-G-82, agency: Beo Basket) was the second scorer in this victory with 15 points and he also grabbed 5 rebounds beside that. Andrew Nicholas (191-G-81, college: Maryland) helped with 13 pts. For the home side, Ioannis Bourousis (212-C-83, agency: FCM) collected 15 pts. Linas Kleiza (203-F-85, college: Missouri) had 11. It was a game full of incidents and it started with 45 minutes delay. Olympiakos opened the game in style making 19-12 lead after ten minutes of play. Mike Batiste and his teammates woke up immediately and they managed to make a turn in Q2. The Reds scored just 13 points in this period, while PAO on the other side drained 26. Thus, the Greens were 32-38 up at the half time. After the breather, actually in 26th minute, PAO jumped to 42-50 and the hosts called a timeout. During the timeout Olympiakos fans made a big incident and the game was interrupted for one hour. That didn't help Olympiakos as PAO managed to increase its lead despite all bad things which happened last night. After 30 minutes of play, PAO was 54-63 up. Later, actually with seven minutes remaining in the game, the Greens grabbed double-digit advantage 59-69. At that time it was clear that PAO plays good enough to keep this lead and it seemed that the game will finally come to the end. But that didn't happen. With something more than one minute to go (69-76 for PAO) Olympiakos fans made another big incident and the referees decided to end this meeting.

Third place
Panellinios - Marousi BC 86-79 (2-2)
Panellinios was better than Marousi 86-79 and the score is tied to 2-2 now. Fifth Game will decide who will finish the season as No.3 in Greece. Roderick Blakney (181-G-76, college: S.Carolina St.) shined for the hosts with 21 points and 6 assists. Ian Vougioukas (212-C/F-85, college: St.Louis) had double-double of 17 points and 8 rebounds. Kosta Charalampidis (189-G-76) and Devin Smith (196-G/F-81, college: Virginia) (7 rebs) scored 15 and 14 points respectively. In Marousi, Dimitrios Mavroidis (208-C-85) collected 14 points and 11 rebs. William Keys (188-G-77, college: N.Mexico St.) stopped on 12 pts. Game Five is scheduled for Tuesday.

Olympiakos is the cup winner! 68-64 beat Panathinaikos! - Feb 20, 2010

In the classical Hellenic derby of the decade the roles have been changed after many years! The first title in Greece was just painted RED! Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus after many years without a title beat Panathinaikos Athens in a game which finished some minutes ago! As Eurobasket.com has allready wrote some weeks ago, Panathinaikos Athens is not the same as the previous seazons, is a team with no passion, bad statistics and less thirst for the titles that used to have all the previous year. Diamantidis, Vassilis Spanoulis (193-G-82), Fotsis, Batiste and the other Green super stars seem to be very tired and are not really very itno it! On the other hand, Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus tonight was very good especially from the parameter, the reds were amazing from the three poitn area and Milos Teodosic (195-G-87) prove to be the leading figure for Panagiotis Yannakis team. The excellent Serb with the expreince of the previous two seazon was more mature than ever and whenver Vassilis Spanoulis or Andrew Nicholas (191-G-81, college: Maryland) or even Stratos Perperoglou (203-G-84) were trying to cut the deficit from 8-9 points to 4-5 points, Milos Teodosic was there either with his three pointers or his goal-fouls or even with his excellent organisational skills. Froma close distance were Josh Childress (203-G/F-83, college: Stanford) who scored many points from the paint, played very well defence and at the same time grabbed a number of rebounds in very crucial minutes in all four quarters. Ofcource the Red Captain, Theodoros Papaloukas with his smartness and maturity helped his team and share a couple of magical assists tonight. The rebounding area was the key to success for the Reds as for another one game the Greens were with too low productivity and the Reds overcame the Greens by as many as 10 rebounds!! with 17 rebounds being offencive!! MVP of the game was 100% Milos Teodosic who scored 22 points with great statistics and an amazing TENDEX!!

Panathinaikos Athens just lost the one out of the three titles and he will probably (very soon) going to be off the Euroleague as the overall situation is quite negative right now for Obradovic and his players. The psychology of the 2009, triple crowners is not as it used to be, with this negative result and the loss of the first title everything changes in Greece. The Basketball king this seazon could be changing colors as Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus with a more mature Josh Childress, an amazing Milos Teodosic, a scoring machine such us Linas Kleiza (203-F-85, college: Missouri) and an essential player such us Papaloukas has all the reasons in the world to entitled the Greek basketball initiatives.
