Solna wins the championship!
Solna -Telge 72:62
The Solna Vikings claimed the Damligan crown yesterday. The regular season
winners prevailed in a dramatic Final series against Telge clinching a vital
82:72 win in the decisive Game 5. Solna celebrated the 4th Damligan title in the
last 10 seasons in Sweden. Last time they were trumped the champions in 2006.
Solna did not wait for too long to declare their ambitions. The hosts got to a
flying start and piled up a 25:10 lead after the starting frame. Telge reacted
immediately taking over in the second stanza and cutting the deficit to 8 points
at the break 35:27. But it was just the momentum for the visitors as Solna
retained control after the break and marched confidently towards the title. A
well-balance offense steered by
Elisabeth Egnell (185-F-87, college:
Boston Coll.) put too many questions for Telge defense to deal with. The Vikings
stretched the gap to 10 points at three-quarter time and never looked back in
the final stanza.
Elisabeth Egnell provided 17 points and 5 assists for Solna.
Jurgita Kausaite (178-G/F-70, college:
Emporia St.)
and Jennifer Harris (178-G-84, college:
Washburn)
netted 15 points apiece for the winners.
Frida Eldebrink (174-G-88) tallied 20 points for Telge.
Louice Halvarsson (189-C-89) contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds in defeat.
The hosts had a slight advantage under the rims 25:24 and converted 93% from the
charity stripe. They also forced Telge to 14 turnovers down the stretch.
