Regular Season Round 9: AEL - Anagennises 69-63

Anagennises (8-1) recorded its first loss in Limassol on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked AEL (7-1) 69-63 . It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Anagennises. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-15 . But Anagennises won second period 9-8 . However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. AEL dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Anagennises ' 28. The best player for the winners was Croatian-Bosnian center Jovana Mandic (192-1992, college: Nicholls) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. American guard Nina Rickards (175-2001, college: Louisville) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. AEL's coach Michalis Kounounis used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Canadian swingman Madison Torresin (183-1996, college: W.Chester) who recorded 20 points and 8 rebounds and international power forward Styliana Chenaklieva (192-2000) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Anagennises players scored in double figures. AEL have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 7-1 record behind leader Anagennises. Anagennises at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost.
