Regular Season Round 9: Olympiacos - Maccabi T-A 73-80

There was a minor upset in Athens where 4th placed Greek Olympiacos (5-4) were defeated by tenth ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (5-4) 80-73. The guests were already 16 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 24-15 Olympiacos' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 80-73 at the end of the game. Maccabi T-A had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. American DJ Seeley (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) nailed 19 points for the winning side and his fellow American import swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) accounted for 10 points and 10 rebounds. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Vassilis Spanoulis (193-82, agency: BeoBasket) came up with 14 points and 4 assists and American-Belgian guard Matt Lojeski (198-85, college: Hawaii, agency: Pensack Sports) added 15 points respectively for Olympiacos in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Maccabi T-A have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Olympiacos. Maccabi T-A's next round opponent will be Anadolu Efes (#9) in Istanbul which should be theoretically an easy game. Olympiacos will play on the road against Darussafaka (#8) in Istanbul and hope to win that game.
