There was a minor upset in Novosibirsk where 8th rankedDynamo NR (3-3) was edged by tenth ranked Neftyanik (3-4) 65-63 on Saturday. Neftyanik outrebounded Dynamo NR 41-27 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was center Vera Kuchina (194-2000) who scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Polina Kuznetsova (181-2004) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Neftyanik players scored in double figures. American guard Aliyah Mazyck (175-1996, college: USC) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and her fellow American import forward Kylee Shook (193-1998, college: Louisville) added 9 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for the hosts. Neftyanik have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain tenth position with 3-4 record. Loser Dynamo NR keeps the eighth place with three games lost. They share the position with Dynamo. Neftyanik will meet at home higher ranked Dynamo (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Dynamo NR will play against Samara and hope to secure a win.
