Regular Season Round 4: Valencia - Un.Olimpija 87-74

Rather expected game when bottom-ranked Slovenia Un.Olimpija (0-4) was defeated on the road by third ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (2-1) 87-74 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Valencia Basket. Un.Olimpija was better in fourth quarter 28-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valencia Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Un.Olimpija's 28 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Valencia Basket forced 21 Un.Olimpija turnovers. French point guard Antoine Diot (193-89, agency: Comsport) fired 8 points and 7 assists for the winners. Swingman Fernando San Emeterio (199-84) chipped in 11 points. American point guard Brandon Jefferson (175-91, college: Metro St.) produced 13 points and 6 assists and Mirko Mulalic (195-88) added 13 points respectively for lost side. Four Un.Olimpija players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Valencia Basket moved-up to second place in Group D, which they share with Ratiopharm. Loser Un.Olimpija still closes the standings with four games lost. Valencia Basket will face Lokomotiv (#4) in Kuban in the next round.
