Hapoel Jerusalem made a big step towards reaching the EuroCup Last 8. They held off Unics at home court today improving at 3-1 record in Group J. Unics in the meantime slipped at 2-2 record in the pool. Yogev Ohayon finished with 19 points in the victory. Hapoel Jerusalem stunned the visitors early. They went on an 8:2 run as Dijon Thompson accounted for 4 points. Unics narrowed the distance and later Marko Popovic drew things level at 17. But Chester Simmons capped the frame with a three-pointer to put Hapoel back in charge. Hapoel quickly restored a safe cushion and Sharon Shason opened a double-digit lead for the hosts. Hapoel maintained the lead and posted a 41:32 advantage at halftime. Loncar and Maciej Lampe cut the distance to 5 points at the start of the third period. However Yogev Ohayon and Chester Simmons stepped up with timely buckets as Hapoel regained control. Petr Samoylenko had the last word in the third stanza as he trimmed the gap to 7 points 53:60. Yogev Ohayon, Brandon Hunter and Yuval Naimy scored for the hosts giving Hapoel a 67:55 advantage three minutes into the fourth stanza. Unics responded with 7 points in a row but it was as close as the Kazan outfit could get. Hapoel stayed calm and organized sealing the victory at the end. Chester Simmons notched 16 points and 7 rebounds for the home team. Brandon Hunter netted 15 points and collected 8 rebounds in the win. Maciej Lampe responded with game-high 30 points and 6 boards for Unics. Marko Popovic netted 13 points in the loss.
