Qualifying Round Round 1: Apoel - Benetton TV 55-97

The Eurocup Qualifying Round tipped off on Tuesday evening in Cyprus where Apoel Nicosia hosted Benetton Treviso in the first of eight series to settle which teams will advance to the Eurocup regular season. After the first game it became clear the Italian side would advance to the next stage as they stormed past the hosts 97:55. It was a tough start however and the teams nailed 7 points each in the opening tip. Greg Brunner scored for 9:7 and Peric brought 15:9. The Italian team held 17:12 at the end of the first period and then Smith nailed three for 22:12. Apoel Nicosia replied with 6-0 run and even grabbed 25:24 as Kovac netted three for the lead. Benetton Treviso however erupted at the end of the second period and grabbed 46:27 advantage after 20 minutes. Greg Brunner opened the third quarter with a jump shot and Ryan Toolson scored for 50:27. Massimo Bulleri netted three for 58:33, while Charron Fisher scored 4 in a row to reduce to 64:37. Jakub Wojciechowski closed the period at 68:41 and then Italian team easily led the game to the first win. Greg Brunner top-scored for the winners with 19 points and Massimo Bulleri netted 13. Jakub Wojciechowski and Smith delivered 12 each, while Alessandro Gentile and Ryan Toolson poured in 11 apiece. Charron Fisher replied with 17 points in the losing effort, whilst Augustinas Vitas and Ian Hanavan added 10 each.
