Qualifying Round Round 5: Arras - Umana Reyer 77-69

Arras managed to pull somewhat of surprise after handing Umana Reyer their first defeat in Group K. The Venice remains in first place with 3 wins and 1 loss while Arras is second with 2-1 score. Hosts jumped out strong from the start. They played good defence for which visiting side had no solution. After one quarter of play Arras was up 20-11. In the second period, Umana Reyer players consolidated and started playing better. They managed to cut the deficit and brought back match to one possession game. Still by the halftime Arras players made a push which restored their lead. At the halftime they still held 9 point lead as the score stood at 40-31. Third period was spent in trading of the baskets with both teams using defence mostly as an afterthought. It was a high scoring period in which teams were tied at 23 apiece. This meant that Arras still held their lead which stood at 63-54 with one quarter to play. In the final 10 minutes, tempo of the game went down but Arras still managed to retain control. They were able to fend off any attempt of comeback by Umana and in the end they have celebrated 77-69 win. Olesia Malashenko scored 15 points for hosts, while Johanne Gomis followed with 14. Pauline Akonga Nsimbo and Aija Putnina also had a good game for winners as they contributed with 13 and 12 points respectively. For Umana Reyer, Roberta Meneghel had game high 26 points. She got support from Nicole Ohlede and Liene Jansone who added 15 and 14 points.
