Regular Season Round 3: Groningen - Cantu 80-74

GasTerra Flames celebrated the initial EuroCup win. They outgunned Bennet Cantu in Groningen tonight. Robby Bostain provided 22 points for the home side. Both teams are now tied at 1-2 record in Group E. GasTerra Flames secured a brave start. They quickly established a 15:10 lead. Cantu however used a 6:0 run of their own to take the first lead of the game 16:15. Groningen responded with a 9:2 rally to grab a 24:18 advantage. The hosts arrived at the first break up by eight points 28:20. Cantu stormed into the second period. They went on a 17:4 run to pull in charge 37:32. The Italian team maintained the lead and recorded a narrow 42:40 halftime buffer. Marconato and Maarten Leunen secured a 5-point lead for Cantu at the start of the second half. But Groningen replied with a 9:0 run to post a 50:46 lead. GasTerra Flames triggered a 7:0 spurt shortly after as they recorded a 57:48 advantage. The Dutch team headed into the final frame ahead by 9 points 62:53. The hosts tipped off the fourth term with a 6:0 run and though Cantu trimmed the deficit at 6-point mark late in regulation GasTerra Flames did not panic and rolled to the win at the end. John Turek had 14 points in the victory. Jason Ellis and Jason Dourisseau notched 12 points apiece for Groningen. Maarten Leunen replied with 18 points for Bennet Cantu. Nicolas Mazzarino delivered 13 points in the losing effort.
