Regular Season Round 5: Panellinios - Cantu 59-54

Panellinios celebrated an important win over Bennet Cantu in EuroCup regular season tonight. The victory put the Greek team in the second position in Group E. Panellinios will next face GasTerra Flames on the road, while Bennet Cantu will play against Galatasaray at home court in the battle for the only Last 16 stage ticket left in this group. The teams started slowly. They stayed close with the lead changing hands. Panellinios earned a 14:12 advantage after ten minutes. The seesaw action continued in the second frame. Djuro Ostojic proved the difference late in the half as his points gave Panellinios a 30:25 halftime advantage. Vangelis Sklavos extended the margin to 11 points midway through the third term. Bennet Cantu did not surrender and nipped the distance to 7 points 37:44 after three quarters. The hosts once again stretched the lead to double figures but Bennet Cant once again found the way to respond. The visitors used a 10:2 rally to narrow the deficit at just three points. Maurice Bailey and Djuro Ostojic came up with timely points as Panellinios got away with a hard-fought win at the end. Maurice Bailey accounted for 14 points and 7 rebounds to lead Panellinios. Djuro Ostojic added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the win. Maarten Leunen answered with 15 points for Bennet Cantu. Benjamin Ortner had 11 points in defeat.
