Khimky recorded victory in the opening game of the EuroCup quarterfinal series versus Lokomotiv Kuban. The hosts claimed a 9-point lead to have a safe buffer before the return leg in Krasnodar. Thomas Kelati unloaded 20 points to lead the winners. Lokomotiv were never intimidated as they entered the court in the Basketball Centre of Moscow Region. The visitors grabbed a 21:18 lead ten minutes into the game. Khimky cut the deficit but still trailed by two at halftime 40:42. Lokomotiv maintained the lead throughout the third term. The visitors entered the fourth period up by a single point 60:59. But Lokomotiv gradually ran out of steam. Khimky stiffened their defence in the final frame and capitalized on the visitors fatigue to surge ahead. Lokomotiv scored just 12 points to allow the hosts to take a 9-point win at the end. Vitaly Fridzon produced 17 points, while Alexey Zhukanenko posted 13 points for the winners. K.C. Rivers and Jeremiah Massey answered with 14 points each for Lokomotiv. Ali Traore accounted for 13 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.
