Qualifying Round Day 1: BELGIUM - SLOVENIA 59-63

Slovenia grabbed very valuable victory against Belgium in Round One of the 2013 EuroBasket Qualifications. They celebrated in Brussels 59-63 in very exciting meeting. Belgium had an early four-point lead but Slovenia asserted themselves in the second quarter and went on top, 22-30. With 3 minutes remaining in the first half visitors had plus 13, but Emma Meesseman cut the margin to 35-28 after two quarters. Slovenia stayed comfortably ahead in the third quarter but Belgium made a run in the fourth that almost saw them steal the victory. The hosts came to 54-47 and later, thanks to Messeman and Anne-Sophie Strubbe, they came even closer to 60-58 with 70 seconds to go. Teams did not use their next possessions and Tina Trebec was sent to the line making two FTs for her team. Slovenia fouled Emmanuella Mayombo and she made only one of two with 10 seconds remaining in the game. With two successful free throws Maja Erkic sealed the victory for Slovenia after that. Maja Erkic led the winners in scoring with 19 points. Tina Trebec had 13 points and 6 rebounds, and Sandra Pirsic added 12 pts. Belgium got double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds from Emma Messeman. Anne-Sophie Strubbe adn Sara Leemands scored 11 points each. Quarters: 16-21, 12-14, 17-17, 14-11. Slovenia will host Lithuania on Sunday, while Belgium goes to Slovakia.
