2025 EuroBasket: Germany hold their nerve to outlast Turkey for European crown in Riga-Sep 14, 2025
Turkey – Germany 83–88

Germany confirmed their dominance of international basketball by adding the EuroBasket 2025 crown to the World Cup triumph, edging Turkey 88–83 in a gripping final in Riga. Isaac Bonga (204-F-1999) top-scored with 20 points, Franz Wagner (208-F-2001, college: Michigan) added 18, and Dennis Schroeder (185-PG-1993) orchestrated with 16 points and 12 assists — including six decisive points in the closing minutes. Schroeder was named the MVP after the game.
Turkey came out blazing, racing to a 13–2 start before Germany settled, clawing back to lead 24–22 at the end of the first quarter. Alperen Sengun (210-C-2002) sparked a second-quarter surge to give the Turks a 46–40 half-time cushion, and Adem Bona (208-F-2003, college: UCLA)’s late basket nudged them ahead 67–66 entering the fourth.
Midway through the final period, Sengun and Ercan Osmani (213-F/C-1998) pushed Turkey to a 76–71 advantage, but Germany’s shooters responded. Andreas Obst (191-SG-1996) and Bonga drilled consecutive triples to flip the lead, only for Kenan Sipahi (198-PG-1995) and Shane Larkin (182-G-1992, college: Miami, FL) to wrestle it back.
Daniel Theis (205-F/C-1992) buried a clutch three to edge Germany in front 82–81, and though Larkin’s lay-up restored a Turkish lead, Schroeder seized control. The point guard scored the game’s next six points, silencing the Turkish charge and sealing a historic, unbeaten championship run.
Sengun poured in 28 points, with Cedi Osman (203-SF-1995) adding 23 and Larkin 13 for Turkey, who fell agonisingly short in their first EuroBasket final since 2001.
