Qualifying Round Day 8: POLAND - MONTENEGRO 53-50

Poland registered very valuable home win against Montenegro tonight. The hosts celebrated 53-50 staying alone on top of Group B with almost perfect 5-1 record. At the same time, Montenegro dropped to the second place with 5-2 score. Poland had impressive start making 15-point lead in the first ten minutes, but visitors replied in Q2 closing the gap to 32-28 until the halftime. Montenegro intensified defense after the breather limiting Poland to just 4 points in Q3, while they drained 18 at the other side and it seemed that Montenegro will take the victory in this game. However, Poland didn't give up and made impressive 14-1 run at the beginning of Q4. Thanks to free throws by Joanna Walich and Skobel in the finish and great defense during the last ten minutes Poland grabbed crucial 53-50 win. Weronika Idczak scored 11 points in victory, while Joanna Walich and Magdalna Losi posted 7 points each. Milica Jovanovic delivered 13 points in defeat. Ana Turcinovic (8 rebs), Iva Perovanovic (8 rebs) and Jelena Skerovic (6 as, 5 rebs) had 8 points apiece. Serbia will host Poland in Round 9, while Montenegro waits Estonia.
