Qualifying Round Day 6: HOLLAND - ROMANIA 80-74

Netherlands claimed the second straight win at 2013 EuroBasket Qualifying Round Group D. They held off visiting Romania for 2-3 record. Romania slipped at 1-4 record after the loss. Robin Smeulders accounted for 18 points and 14 boards to lead the charge. Netherlands eked out a 15:12 lead after ten minutes. Romania improved their offence in the second frame. They fired 18 points to cut the margin to a single point 31:30 at halftime. Netherlands opened an 11-point lead midway through the third term. Romania however cut the distance to 4 points at the final intermission 48:52. The hosts restored an 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter but Romania did not surrender. Titus Nicoara and Paul put the visitors within two points 74:76 with 9 seconds remaining. Robin Smeulders answered with four free throws in the dying seconds to seal the victory for Netherlands. Rogier Jansen accounted for 17 points and 6 assists, while Henk Norel added 12 points for the winners. Vlad Moldoveanu answered with 21 points for Romania. Titus Nicoara had 20 points and 9 caroms in the loss.
