Top 16 Round 3: CEZ Nymburk - VEF Riga 80-85

VEF Riga posted the second win in EuroCup Last 16. They upset Nymburk in Czech Republic to jump at 2-1 record in Group J. Kristaps Janicenoks was responsible for 16 points in the victory. VEF Riga had to work their way back into the game as they trailed early on. Nymburk started the game aggressively. The hosts dropped 25 points in the opening quarter to ensure a 6-point lead. The hosts stretched the gap in the second term. Nymburk piled up a comfortable 42:34 halftime lead. The hosts stretched the lead to 15 points before VEF Riga started to cut the deficit. Antanas Kavaliauskas scored nine points in a row and Janicenoks added two more as VEF Riga all of a sudden found themselves within 6 points 47:53. They cut the deficit to 5 points heading into the fourth frame 54:59. Nymburk gained a 10-point lead midway through the final term 72:62. But VEF Riga answered with 11 straight points to surge ahead 73:72. Donatas Zavackas nailed six points to make it 79:75 for the visitors with 32 seconds to go. Kristaps Janicenoks and Earl Rowland went perfect from the stripe in the dying seconds to seal the win for the visitors then. Antanas Kavaliauskas chipped in 15 points, while Kaspars Berzins added 14 points in the win. Radoslav Rancik answered with 18 points for Nymburk. Vojtech Hruban had 14 points in the loss.
