Uxue Bilbao held off VEF Riga in the decisive game in EuroCup Top 16 Group J. The Spaniards clinched the top spot in the ladder after the victory. VEF Riga were left outside the next round of action with the loss. VEF Riga had to win in this one and they stormed into the game. The Latvian powerhouse enjoyed a 22:13 lead after ten minutes of action. But the Basque team reacted quickly. They organized a 24:14 run in the second frame to take a 37:36 halftime lead. VEF Riga stopped the rot in the third period. They ignited a 7:0 run and eventually entered the fourth frame up by two points 53:51. The teams were tied at 60 midway through the final period. But Bilbao capped the regulation on a 10:0 run to seal the crucial win. Alex Mumbru and Raul Lopez scored 15 points apiece to pace Bilbao. Adrien Moerman added 14 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. Antanas Kavaliauskas answered with 12 points and 8 rebounds for VEF Riga. Kaspars Berzins had 11 points and 8 rebounds in defeat.
