Spanish Unicaja Malaga edged German ALBA Berlin at home 87-84. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Unicaja Malaga made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. ALBA Berlin was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Ryan Toolson (193-85, college: Utah Valley) notched 13 points and 8 assists to lead the effort and Uruguayan-Italian point guard Jayson Granger (188-89) supported him with 12 points. Granger is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 14 points and 5 rebounds by American forward Jamel McLean (203-88, college: Xavier) did not help to save the game for ALBA Berlin. His fellow American import swingman Reggie Redding (196-88, college: Villanova) added 12 points and 5 assists for the guests. Four Unicaja Malaga and five ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. ALBA Berlin will play next round against strong Maccabi T-A trying to get back on the winning streak. Unicaja Malaga will try to continue on its current victory against Limoges CSP Elite at home.
