Rather expected game in Sassari where 6th ranked Italian Banco di Srd (1-7) was defeated by fourth ranked Russian Unics Kazan (4-4) 72-68 on Thursday. Banco di Srd trailed by 14 points at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 26-14 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 68-72 at the end of the game. Unics Kazan outrebounded Banco di Srd 39-28 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Israeli center D'or Fischer (211-81, college: W.Virginia) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and American point guard Curtis Jerrells (185-87, college: Baylor) who added 11 points and 5 assists during the contest. Unics Kazan's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American-Polish guard David Logan (185-82, college: Indianapolis) responded with 17 points and 5 assists and Dominican point guard Edgar Sosa (190-88, college: Louisville) scored 10 points and 5 assists. They have a solid three-game winning streak. Unics Kazan moved-up to third place in Group A, which they share with Zalgiris. Banco di Srd lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Unics Kazan will face Zalgiris (#3) in Kaunas in the next round. Banco di Srd will play at home against Real Madrid and hope to win that game.
