Regular Season Round 8: Valencia - Crvena Zvezda 68-77

Very ineresting game when 6th ranked Spanish Valencia Basket (2-6) was defeated at home by second ranked Serbian Crvena Zvezda (5-3) 77-68 on Friday. Crvena Zvezda clinched Top 16 birth with the victory. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Valencia Basket won fourth quarter 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Valencia Basket 42-21 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of center Boban Marjanovic (222-88, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Marcus Williams (191-85, college: Connecticut) who added 17 points during the contest. Montenegrin Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: Beo Basket) responded with 22 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Pau Ribas (196-87) scored 15 points and 6 assists. Valencia Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Crvena Zvezda maintains second position in Group D with 5-3 record behind leader Anadolu Efes. Loser Valencia Basket stay at the bottom place with six games lost. Crvena Zvezda will face Olympiacos in Piraeus in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Valencia Basket will play on the road against Laboral Kutxa (#3) in Vitoria and hope to win that game.
