Group A top team - Russian UMMC Ekaterinburg (8-1) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Polish Wisla Krakow (4-6) 106-63. The game was mostly controlled by UMMC Ekaterinburg. Wisla Krakow managed to win fourth quarter 29-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UMMC Ekaterinburg dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Wisla Krakow's 34. UMMC Ekaterinburg forced 19 Wisla Krakow turnovers and outrebounded them 43-20 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for UMMC Ekaterinburg especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Wisla Krakow's players. It was a quality performance for French center Sandrine Gruda (193-87, agency: Comsport) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Italian-American Diana Taurasi (182-82, college: Connecticut) accounted for 19 points and 6 assists for the winning side. American center Jantel Lavender (191-88, college: Ohio St.) came up with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Lithuanian center Gintare Petronyte (196-89) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Wisla Krakow in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for UMMC Ekaterinburg. Defending Russian champion maintains first place in Group A with 8-1 record. Defending Polish champion Wisla Krakow keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Galatasaray. UMMC Ekaterinburg will meet Galatasaray (#5) in the next round. Wisla Krakow will have a break next round.
