Russian leader UMMC Ekaterinburg recorded the ninth victory on Tuesday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Belgian Castors Braine (3-8) 78-52. The game was mostly controlled by UMMC Ekaterinburg. Castors Braine was better in third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Castors Braine 40-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for UMMC Ekaterinburg especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. The best player for the winners was Italian-American Diana Taurasi (182-82, college: Connecticut) who scored 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. French center Sandrine Gruda (193-87, agency: Comsport) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. American Sidney Spencer (191-85, college: Tennessee, agency: LBM Management) produced 11 points and center Ann Wauters (194-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Russian champion maintains first place in Group B with 9-2 record. Defending Belgian champion Castors Braine keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. UMMC Ekaterinburg will face bottom-ranked Argon Uni Girona (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Castors Braine will play against USK Praha and hope to win that game.
